Eagleowl make gorgeously understated post-folk music. They are also, strictly speaking, part of the Fife Kills Collective rather than a Song, by Toad Records band, but we helped out with their promo stuff, and I think they’re brilliant, so they’ve kindly given me some of their EPs to sell and let me list them on the site.
Their latest single, which is absolutely gorgeous was just released by our friends at Kilter Records, and I really recommend you snap one up quickly, before they all sell out.
Some press quotes, to show how splendid they are:
“(on ‘Blanket’) This song title sums up why Eagleowl are so damn perfect – it couldn’t be more suitable for their music and the way it envelops you in warm fuzziness, and allows you to drift off into a melancholy, untroubled state of consciousness.” – The Skinny.
“A wonderfully atmospheric piece of slowcore post-folk, reminiscent at times of Low, with a dash of Scottish sea shanty thrown in here, a soupcon of Adem’s organic melancholy there, all of it positively oozing home-grown, home-cooked goodness.” – 4/5, the List (single of the fortnight).
“Edinburgh’s eagleowl are notoriously slow workers, but it’d be missing the point somewhat to wait for a full-length debut album to emerge when this EP has everything but the duration. Their slow-burning, fragile folk refuses to betray youthful energy, instead moving with care to preserve the peace behind each song.” – 4/5, The Skinny.
“Particularly impressive is MF, which adeptly manages to produce a groove with acoustic instruments and features a rather droll line that is too rude to print in this column.” – The Scotsman.
“…gorgeously quavering folk harmonies.” – Word magazine.
“(eagleowl’s) first EP manages to perfectly capture what has made them such an appealing live prospect. Gentle harmonies and groaning strings combine to create a set of atmospheric slow burners in which every note and nuance sounds completely deliberate and considered.” – 5/5, Is This Music?
“Well I’ve been excited about this ever since the band generously donated a song to the sampler I gave out at the Song, by Toad Records launch party. That song was Blanket, and it’s gorgeous, and so is this.” – Song, by Toad.
