Twilight Sad in-store – James can see no end to the crowd

Two great turn outs for this week’s in-stores and I’m sure the FRabbits crowd won’t let us down on Friday. Also good to hear how quiet everybody was after so much chatter at gigs I’ve been to recently.

Feel free to send in your pics from Friday’s in-store. Thanks to Calum Langdale for the pic of Rachel.

Frightened Rabbit tickets for Friday’s 5pm in-store

I’ve made just over 300 tickets for the in-store on Friday. I’m hoping everybody will fit in again as happened on Record Store Day and the tickets were mainly done to save people queueing for too long. If all the tickets go then those without a ticket can wait outside and hopefully still get in. The shop comfortably holds 300 and 450 if we all breathe in. We had 460 in the shop last time with another 40 in the doorway. 100 tickets went today so for now there are still plenty left.

Tickets are free but donations are being made to the band’s charity the Cystinosis Foundation.

Your First Mistake get it right !

Had a young band in the shop asking advice about geting gigs in Edinburgh. Always glad to speak to bands who realise that maybe asking a record shop for contacts might be a better bet than google. Tied them down to saying they were alt rock and listening reminds me of those young whippersnappers I teased before when they played the Grassmarket Festival These Fading Polaroids and Donnie Willow. I’m sure they’ll disagree. Again great song titles “Today is a Good Day, To Bury Bad News”, “Michael, It Was Just An Illusion” and “I Say Flash, You Say Thunder”. There is no harm in the odd comma !

Anyway they play Studio 24 on Friday February 17th with Constellations and Moving Mecca should you wish to check them out  and they can be contacted via their facebook page

If nothing else they look like they might give the Jetpacks a run for their money at 5-a-side.

Video Installations and Projections

I had a video projections artist in the shop on Saturday who had just moved to Edinburgh. He has worked amongst others with Hot Chip and is now keen to get involved with bands in Edinburgh. Email the shop for his details using

Tara: Grassmarket, Edinburgh

“Tara Nowy is the latest subject of my Superior Interior project: looking at style beyond the street. Having looked at the wardrobe of fashion blogger Imogen Roy and the stylish stories of author Varda Ducovny, this time I’m taking a different approach.” Jonathan Pryce

Taras father is a musician and has a deep passion for music, resulting in an unusual home-away-from-home: Avalanche Records. The Independent Edinburgh record store, located on Grassmarket, is a haven for inspiration to feed her music addiction.

Frightened Rabbit in-store Friday 10th February @ 5pm

I was chuffed when Rachel asked if she could play in the shop to launch her new EP. I was more than happy when James offered to play in the shop again and then was able to play the week the new Twilight Sad album was released. What was turning out to be one of the best weeks we had ever had for in-stores then unbelievably got even better when I asked the FRabbit guys if they fancied popping in to do an in-store before their sold out gig at the HMV Picture House and they said yes. We had 500 people at the Record Store Day show so we will be issuing tickets that will guarantee entry but as with all Avalanche in-stores it will be free and all ages. I was particularly pleased at how many young kids came back to the shop after the last in-store saying it was the first real gig they had been to and how much they had enjoyed it. Hopefully though everybody will fit in and I’ll let people know how many places are left on the day for those without a ticket. More details to follow but I expect tickets will be ready to collect from Tuesday.

Twilight Sad in-store Wednesday 8th February @ 5pm

The Twilight Sad will be appearing in the shop to promote their new album and play a few old songs too. The in-store is all ages and free.
